The downtown Durham neighborhoods currently lack a nearby neighborhood elementary school that is accessible to all. Downtown Durham residents are committed to Durham Public Schools and its aim to educate all Durham children. The downtown Durham community is willing to fundraise to build an elementary school that reflects the values and vibrancy of our downtown Durham communities.
This petition is designed to communicate an interest in an elementary school in downtown Durham (with the tentative name of "Duke Park Cooperative Elementary"). The current working group is committed to working with all community partners and Durham Public Schools to create a school rooted in cooperative learning philosophies that relies on place-based and environmentally-sustainable teaching methods.
