Agriculture Secretary Vilsack: Farmers Need Facts On Climate Change and Drought

The Midwestern and Southern regions of the U.S. are facing one of the worst droughts. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack refuses to "opine" about the cause of the drought. The U.S. Global Change Research program in 2009 predicted that climate change will cause droughts. The USDA has also linked climate change and drought. Vilsack needs to the right thing and speak out about those links.

Sign this petition to tell Vilsack to tell farmer's the truth about human induced climate change and the threats!

Dear Secretary Vilsack:

On July 18 you spoke about the drought affecting large portions of the U.S. However, you didn't speak about the link between the drought and climate change.

The day after you spoke about the drought, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released a report that said 55 percent of the contiguous U.S. was under moderate to extreme drought in June. This is the largest land area in the country to be affected by a drought since December 1956.

Please, tell farmers and ranchers the truth about the link between climate change and drought. The people who produce our food deserve all the facts they can get to cope with the drought that is affecting their livelihoods.
