EPA: Increase Regulations for Ozone!

Ozone, the main pollutant found in smog, causes serious health problems such as decrease in lung function, increase in respiratory symptoms and increase in airway inflammation. Children and elderly adults are especially vulnerable to ozone's effects.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) science advisors say that the Agency's current ozone limit of 75 parts per billion (ppb) does not adequately protect public health. At the current standard, healthy adults who go outside for over six and a half hours may experience respiratory issues. Even a limit of 70 ppb is inadequate. Advisors recommend a new limit of 60 ppb. In 2010, the EPA estimated that this standard would prevent 4,000 to 12,000 premature deaths, 21,000 hospital and emergency room visits and cut down on the number of school and work days missed by 2.5 million.

Please sign the petition to urge the EPA to adopt a new ozone standard of 60 ppb to protect public health!
