Word on the street and in the entertainment mags is that Reese Witherspoon is in talks to reprise her role as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 3!
Not only is she in talks to star but she will also, for the first time, be producing the film alongside MGM, Marc Platt and his Platt Productions president Adam Siegel. This gives Ms. Witherspoon an amazing opportunity to hand the creative reigns to a woman director.
Although Legally Blonde has proved to be an empowering female first franchise that has always carried a pro-feminist message, there has yet to be a female in the director's chair.
Ms. Witherspoon and her production company Hello Sunshine have produced many films and TV shows, most notably Gone Girl and Big Little Lies, but according to Wikipedia, they have only once tapped a female director, Anne Fletcher on 2015's Hot Pursuit.
With so many amazing female directors on the rise, including Lucia Aniello (Rough Night, Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer) and Stella Meghie (Everything, Everything), Ms. Witherspoon has an opportunity to catapult a woman to a place of power in Hollywood while also giving the film authenticity in its message.
