Reform Archaic SC Alimony Laws Now!

SC's alimony laws are archaic and unfair! If you divorce in SC you will most likely pay permanent alimony. This means you will be supporting your ex-spouse for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!! (Yes...women pay alimony too). As you grow older and become too feeble to work, lose your job, or become disabled, you may very well face jail time if you cannot pay. It is possible that you will never be able to retire. No one should have to work until death in order to pay another person alimony simply because the marriage failed. We are not against all alimony...just lifetime alimony. Let's limit alimony to rehabilatative alimony... or at least let's create an offset at retirement age where the alimony payments will be reduced by the amount of social security drawn by the ex-spouse. Everyone deserves the right to retire without the burden of lifetime alimony.
