Stop Child Marriage - Keep Girls in School until 18

When girls are married as children, they usually drop out of school.

Child marriage is the main reason why 40% of girls in Niger drop out of school before the age of 15. Because of this, in Niger only 15% of women can read and write, while in Australia we have a 96% literacy rate for both men and women. Saadatou, pictured above, is still in school. Her cousin (with the baby) is not.

Child marriage is still legal in Niger — a country that has the worst record in the world for marrying girls young. Niger must raise the marriage age to 18. Australia needs to make it clear to the global community that we want Niger to raise its legal marriage age.

Ask our Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, to put girls' education on the global stage.

Call on Foreign Minister Julie Bishop to pick up the phone to the President of Niger to end child marriage and demand equal access to education for girls.
