Stand Up for an America that Believes in Religious Freedom

The planned construction of a Muslim center in lower Manhattan started a debate which has consumed the nation. Too often, though, people are forgetting a simple truth: religious freedom is not only one of our greatest privileges, but also one of our greatest responsibilities.

This is a critical moment for the United States -- a test of the strength and unity of the American people. Now more than ever, the country should act in accordance with its values and responsibilities.

Some of the people who lost their lives at Ground Zero were Muslim Americans, and some were not, but afterward, everyone grieved together as one. It is radical groups like the Taliban that want our actions to be tainted by fear and hostility, and the United States should not stoop to that level. Unfortunately, some political interest groups are already playing into the hands of the enemy by capitalizing on the fear and controversy surrounding this issue for their own political benefit. Let the world know you support religious freedom for everyone, and that you will not be scared into changing your vote anymore than you will be scared into compromising Constitutional rights.
The planned construction of a Muslim center in lower Manhattan started a debate which has consumed the nation, and I am writing to add my opinion to the discussion. Our greatest privileges are also our most important responsibilities, and religious freedom is not a privilege I'm willing to sacrifice nor a responsibility I will allow myself to neglect.

We will never forget 9/11 and those who lost their lives on that day. Some of the people who lost their lives at Ground Zero were Muslim Americans, and some were not, but afterward, everyone grieved together as one. Now more than ever, the country should act in accordance with its values and responsibilities. Anything less would be disrespectful to the memories of those who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001.

Finally, I'm already tired of this issue being used for fear-mongering purposes by political interest groups. I will continue to support religious freedom for everyone, and I will not be scared into changing my vote anymore than I will be scared into compromising Constitutional rights.
