Demand U.S. support for Yemen and growing humanitarian crises across the world

Over 5 years of major armed conflict and severe underfunding has pushed Yemen to the brink. 80% of the population — 24.3 million people — are in need of humanitarian aid, with over 16 million people facing food insecurity. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic and a steep drop in humanitarian funding have put the country at risk of massive further deterioration.

Unfortunately, Yemen is not the only country at risk. Global needs are at record levels: the number of people globally in need of humanitarian assistance tripled between 2015 and 2021 to over 235 million today.

Despite the astounding level of need, global humanitarian aid funding dropped in 2019 for the first time in 7 years, and refugee resettlement slots around the world — created to provide a path to safety for those fleeing war and persecution — have decreased by over 50% in the past 4 years. In the U.S., refugee resettlement slots have also decreased dramatically over the past four years to just 15,000 for fiscal year 2021 — the lowest in modern history. The crisis in Yemen and other countries at greatest need are political emergencies as much as humanitarian emergencies; President Biden and other political leaders must take urgent action and lead the world in a global response.

Join the International Rescue Committee as we call on U.S. leaders to address the situation in Yemen and other countries by fully funding humanitarian aid, rebuilding pathways for those fleeing violence and persecution, allowing individuals to find safety in the U.S. when needed, and more.
