Hundreds of Greyhounds Have Been Killed Due to the Dog Racing Industry in New South Wales

Two years ago, animal rights activists all over Australia and the world celebrated as politicians banned Greyhound racing in New South Wales (NSW). The decision was groundbreaking and many thought it would move many other states and governments to do the same.

Two months later, however, in a spectacular turn-around, the former NSW premier — Mike Baird — rescinded the ban.

Now, almost two years to the date since the original ban, animal rights activists have rescued a dozen sick and emaciated greyhounds and uncovered a mass grave that held nine more dogs that had likely been left to suffer until their death before being tossed into a ditch and forgotten.

The discovery is even more evidence that the cruel industry has not cleaned up its act, instead, they continue to tread these beautiful creatures as expendable, tossing them aside or even killing them when they no longer become profitable.

In fact, according to data, less than one year after the ban was revoked, hundreds of dogs were being killed. From April 2017 to date, an estimated 770 dogs have been killed after being found to be "unsuitable for rehoming."

This is what happens when people forget that animals are living things not pawns in a game or mere instruments to generate wealth. If these races continue even more animals will die, and we can't let that happen.

NSW's needs to end this animal cruelty and reinstate the ban. Please sign the petition and ask current NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian to follow in Canberra's footprints and banning greyhound racing once and for all.
