Tell Congress to End Our Crisis of Gun Violence

The epidemic of gun violence in America continued this month with mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, claiming the lives of 31 people.

These tragedies reveal the violent intersecting problems of white nationalism, domestic terrorism, gun violence, and toxic masculinity that grip our nation.

Every year, more than 30,000 Americans die in gun-related incidents. Too many lives are at stake for Congress to continue its procrastination.

Thoughts and prayers are not enough.

Sojourners' mission is Faith in Action for Social Justice. As the Bible instructs us, we must "love not in word or speech, but in truth and action" (1 John 3:18). As a person of faith, use your voice to call for Congress to pass sensible legislation to address gun violence.

Congress must act now and appropriate funds for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to research gun violence, ban assault weapons, and mandate universal background checks — to keep guns out of the hands of people with violent histories, including those who have perpetrated domestic violence.

Sign the petition and urge Congress to pass legislation to address the crisis of gun violence.
End our Crisis of Gun Violence

Dear [Decision Maker],

As our country mourns in the wake of the horrific mass shootings that occurred this past weekend in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, I urge you to do more than simply offer your thoughts and prayers. As a Christian, I believe that our faith must be channeled into action, that we must "love not in word or speech, but in truth and action" (1 John 3:18).

Every year, more than 30,000 Americans die in gun-related incidents. I urge you to act now and appropriate funds for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to research gun violence, ban assault weapons, and mandate universal background checks--to keep guns out of the hands of people with violent histories, including those who have perpetrated domestic violence.
