Congress: Recommit to Ending Pediatric AIDS

A parent's greatest joy is to watch their child grow up healthy, happy, and thriving. But so many families around the world aren't this fortunate. They lack access to the healthcare they need to ensure their children are not lost to AIDS.

An HIV diagnosis can be a devastating thing, especially when it happens to a child. Without access to treatment, 50% of HIV-positive children will die before their second birthday, and most will die before they are five years old. This is simply unacceptable.

There is hope, though. An AIDS-free generation isn't just a dream. We can prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child (PMTCT) before it happens, and we can ensure those children who are infected access the lifesaving medicines they need to not just survive, but thrive.

Since 2000, new HIV infections in children have been reduced by more than half—due in large part to U.S. leadership. But even with that incredible progress, over 400 children are newly infected with HIV each day, and only about half are accessing treatment. Until no child has AIDS, there is work to be done.

Please, join EGPAF in standing up for children.

We have the tools, medicines, and technology to save children's lives. Now it's up to us to support increased access for women, children, and families who need them most.

Senators Bob Casey and Marco Rubio and Congresswomen Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Barbara Lee have introduced resolution S.Res 310/ H.Res 593. This bipartisan resolution reinforces the important role U.S. leadership plays in reducing new infections in children and recommits the U.S. to leading the world towards ending AIDS.

It's time for our leaders to take action to save children's lives and stop the spread of HIV around the world. Ask your Senators and member of Congress today to co-sponsor this resolution and send a signal that we can end pediatric AIDS once and for all!
Dear [Representative],

Since 2000, the number of new infections in children has been reduced by more than half—due in large part to U.S. leadership and programmatic support for dramatic scale up of prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) programming globally. Even with that incredible progress, more than 400 children are still newly infected with HIV each day. Even more troubling is that only half of children living with HIV have access to lifesaving anti-retroviral treatment. This is a matter of life and death for these children - without these medicines, half of children born with HIV will die by the age of two and 80% will die by the age of five.

That is why Senators Marco Rubio and Bob Casey and Congresswomen Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Barbara Lee have introduced a bicameral, bipartisan resolution S.Res 310/ H.Res 593: Recognizing the importance of a continued commitment to ending pediatric AIDS worldwide. This resolution reinforces the important role U.S. leadership plays in reducing new infections in children, reaching those children who are infected with HIV, as well as recommits the U.S. to leading the world towards ending AIDS.

I urge you to co-sponsor this legislation and send a signal that we can end pediatric AIDS once and for all.
