Protect the Right to a Fair Trial in Tennessee

It is our constitutional right to have a fair trial. However, a group of over 17,000 people are petitioning against this right in the state of Tennessee.

In 2007, Channon Christian and Hugh Newsom were brutally murdered. Their murderers were tried by Judge Richard Baumgartner, who was severely under the influence of painkillers at the time.

Because Judge Baumgartner was substantially impaired during the trial, logically, re-trials were ordered.

There is a current action calling for the cancellation of the re-trials. This would deny the convicted of their right to a fair trial. It is gaining the support of thousands for an unjust, unconstitutional action.

A fair trial is especially important in this case because at least one of the convicted was sentenced to death by lethal injection during sentencing. Even if they are guilty, they deserve to be tried fairly.

Protect our constitutional rights from being undermined by signing this petition that would ensure justice for all.

The Honorable Judge Jon Kerry Blackwood,

I am writing to express my deep concern for the efforts that are being made to cancel the re-trials of Letalvis D. Cobbins, Lemaricus Davidson, George Thomas, Vanessa Coleman, and Eric Dewayne Boyd.

It has come to my attention that there is a petition currently circulating on Change.org that is campaigning for the unconstitutional action to deny the convicted of a fair re-trial.

This is especially important because the sentences of these individuals include severe penalties, including death.

Canceling the re-trials of these individuals would undermine the United States Constitution, which grants every American citizen the right to a fair trial. To deprive them of their right to a fair re-trial would be a crime against our country.

I urge you, do not deny these individuals or the state of Tennessee of our 6th Amendment rights. Even if they are guilty, they must be fairly convicted.
