Dear party leaders,
I call on you to make a commitment to get every child reading well at age 11 by 2025.
Reading is the key to a child's future. But not every UK child has this chance, and 40% children living in poverty leave primary school behind in reading.
If we don't act now, over the next decade almost 1.5 million children will start secondary school unable to read well, with dismal consequences for their futures.
That's why we are calling on the UK to Read On. Get On -- bringing together children, parents, grandparents, authors, teachers and business leaders to ensure that primary-school education really does provide every child with a fair start.
Together, we will ensure that all children born today will have a brighter future, and will be confident readers, ready for the next stage of life, as they leave primary school in 2025.
We can't do this without you.
