Take a stand against discrimination in voting

The US Supreme Court just heard arguments in Louisiana v. Callais, a case that could decide the fate of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA).
The case is a challenge to a congressional map in Louisiana that created a second majority-Black district to ensure fair representation for Black voters in the state. The case involves a constitutional challenge to Section 2, which prohibits a state from implementing any election practice or procedure (such as drawing district lines) that dilutes or denies a person's fundamental right to vote due to their race or color.
If the Court chooses to dismantle Section 2, they will strip communities of color of hard-won political power, leaving voters who have been discriminated against without a critical legal remedy. Such a decision would betray the legacy and bravery of those who marched, struggled, and died for the right to vote. We the people must fight back against this attack on the fundamental right to vote.
Discrimination in voting is illegal.
The VRA remains necessary to prevent voter discrimination for all of us, no matter the language we speak, color of our skin, or zip code we live in. The wrong decision in Callais would be an act of direct destruction against America's developing multi-racial democracy.
Sign your name to stand with the League of Women Voters in all efforts to protect the Voting Rights Act and support the continued need for the VRA now and in the future.
As your constituent, I implore you to vote No on the SAVE America Act, as an effort to require citizenship documentation to register to vote and a photo ID to cast a ballot. Voters in every state are already required to affirm or verify their citizenship status when registering.
It is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections. Additionally, state election officials ban non-citizen voting in all state elections and have systems to verify an individual voter's eligibility and ensure that voter rolls are accurate. The bill's requirement of a document to prove American citizenship to register to vote in federal elections is unnecessary and creates yet another barrier to voting.
Please vote No on the SAVE America Act to ensure that every eligible US citizen has the freedom to vote unimpeded by discriminatory rules rooted in fear and division.
