Help Virginia win comprehensive reform of high-cost loans.

The Virginia House of Delegates and Senate have passed comprehensive legislation (House Bill 789 & Senate Bill 421) to protect Virginians from harmful payday and title loans while expanding access to affordable credit. Once signed by Governor Ralph Northam, this legislation will ensure that all small loans in Virginia have affordable payments, fair prices, and reasonable time to repay.

Your voice is needed to get this reform over the finish line, to urge Gov. Northam to sign the legislation into law.

Virginia can ensure access to affordable credit throughout the state and save Virginians $100 million each year.

Make your voice heard and urge Governor Northam to sign the bill into law to protect Virginia consumers.
Dear Gov. Northam,

[optional personal comment]

I am writing to urge you to sign the Virginia Fairness in Lending Act, bipartisan legislation that will comprehensively reform Virginia's lending laws, protect families from harmful payday and title loan practices and provide widespread access to affordable credit.

Each year hundreds of thousands of Virginians are impacted by the unaffordable payments and excessive prices associated with payday and title loans. Payday lenders charge Virginians three times more than they do in other states for the same loans. And 1 in 8 title loan borrowers in Virginia has a vehicle repossessed each year, one of the nation's highest rates.

I hope you will sign the Virginia Fairness in Lending Act into law, to support common-sense, bipartisan reform that will save Virginia families $100 million each year, all while ensuring widespread access to affordable credit on fair terms.

Sincerely,
