Instead of the compassion they deserve, some survivors of sexual violence are met with cruel words after sharing their stories—words like liar, attention-seeker, or opportunist.

Yet the words that can offer a survivor the most comfort and hope are also some of the simplest: I believe you.

It's on all of us to create an environment of openness and compassion, where every person affected by sexual violence feels safe to speak the truth. Sign on to RAINN's statement today and help send a powerful message to survivors everywhere.
