Ban Abusive Roadside Sale of Animals in California

Unbelievably, it is still legal in California and many other places around the country for pets to be sold by the side of the road and out of parking lots. These animals are at terrible risk of abuse--often treated poorly by the people selling them, sold to negligent owners, and sometimes even killed for meat.
Proposed legislation in California would stop the practice of selling animals in places like supermarket parking lots and alongside highways, and create stricter penalties for animal abuse.
The bill in question, SB 917, is a second attempt by State Senator Ted Lieu to protect animals from this abuse. Alarmingly, his first attempt was defeated in 2009. We can finally put these protections into law, but only if we make our voices loud and clear to the bill's opponents.
SB 917 is up for debate on April 12th, so we need to move quickly to fight for the welfare of these vulnerable animals. Tell California state senators to pass the ban on roadside selling of animals.

Senator Ted Lieu has sponsored SB 917, a bill to end this abusive practice. The bill would protect animals from these abuses without hurting the work of animal shelters and other similar groups.
