Don't Forget About The World's Poor

With the official launch of a $100 billion New Development Bank backed by the BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – excitement is building around this multilateral finance institution.

While some view the NDB as a valuable counterpoint to the World Bank or International Monetary Fund, others see it as a curious experiment. Yet on one thing we can all agree – alleviating poverty around the world is in everyone’s best interest.

Almost half of the world’s population – over 3 billion people – currently survives on less than $2.50 a day. And yet, with assistance from multi-national organizations, governments, and international nonprofits, impoverished individuals worldwide are working to turn the tide.

With a little help and a lot of hard work, they’re lifting themselves and their families up and out of the grip of poverty – something the New Development Bank can support.

We’re calling on the New Development Bank to make poverty reduction an explicit goal of its lending practices. Please don’t forget about the world’s poor.
Dear New Development Bank leadership,

Almost half of the world’s population – over 3 billion people – currently survives on less than $2.50 a day. And yet, with assistance from multi-national organizations, governments, and international nonprofits, impoverished individuals worldwide are working to turn the tide.

With a little help and a lot of hard work, they’re lifting themselves and their families up and out of the grip of poverty – something the New Development Bank can support.

As the New Development Bank’s bylaws are finalized, we’re asking that you make poverty reduction an explicit goal of your lending practices.

Please don’t forget about the world’s poor. Ending poverty is in everyone’s best interest.

Sincerely,
