Tell the City of Vancouver you don't want them to allow for the sale of cats, dogs and rabbits in stores!

There are plans to open a store that sells ALL animals in Vancouver. Don't let this happen. Dogs, cats and rabbits should not be sold in a retail environment. Animals that come from pet stores come from inhumane breeding mills, where profit trumps the health and well being of the animals. Animals forced to breed live a life of misery. Because of the deplorable breeding practices, many animals bought from a pet store have health issues. And because they are confined in glass boxes during important developmental phases of their life, they often have behaviour issues.
Cities that allow for the retail sale of pets also place a burden on tax payers. When animal, purchased on impulse, are abandoned or surrendered to a municipal shelter, it is tax payer dollars that are paying for their care.

There are close to 200 cities across Canada and the United States that have banned the retail sale of dogs and cats, including New Westminster (Dogs, Cats and Rabbits) Richmond (Dogs and Rabbits) and Toronto (Dogs, Cats and Rabbits).

It is time for the City of Vancouver to follow this growing global trend that recognizes that Pets are not Products.

I am opposed to the retail sale of animals and ask that the City of Vancouver create a bylaw that prohibits this inhumane business practice to stop any new businesses wanting to sell dogs, cats and rabbits.
