Support the Fix Our Forests Act

America is facing a future defined by wildfires that are increasingly extreme and devastating to communities and landscapes. Already this year, more than 9 million acres have burned across the country – an area larger than Massachusetts.

As this crisis grows, it threatens communities, impacts public health, and degrades air quality across entire regions. Wildfires also threaten military readiness, critical defense infrastructure, and the availability of National Guard and Reserve forces at home and abroad.

This crisis demands federal action, and Congress has an opportunity to kick-start the national solution by passing the bipartisan Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA).

FOFA would establish a Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program to provide communities with resources to aid in fire preparedness and expand the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program to cover home-hardening against wildfires. Furthermore, FOFA would make it easier for federal agencies to clear hazardous vegetation, thin overcrowded forests, and carry out other fire prevention projects – reducing the wildfire burden on our military.

Alliance for Wildfire Resilience Action is working hard to push FOFA through Congress. Now, we are asking you to help get this bill over the finish line by contacting your lawmakers and asking them to support the Fix Our Forests Act.

I want to make sure you know about America's wildfire crisis. Already this year, over 9 million acres (an area the size of Massachusetts) have burned.

As these fires grow, their impact spreads, threatening communities, impacting national public health, and degrading air quality across entire regions. We continue to see entire cities blanketed with wildfire smoke, disrupting communities, heightening the risk of respiratory and cardiovascular conditions in older adults and children, and putting pregnancies at risk. More than 115 million people in the U.S. (more than a third of the population) were exposed to toxic wildfire smoke this year.

Wildfires aren't just a land management issue, they also impact military readiness. The Defense Department has supported federal wildfire response in 23 of the last 25 years limiting the availability of National Guard and Reserve forces at home and abroad. Simultaneously, a growing share of U.S. military installations face high wildfire hazard exposure.

This is why I am asking you to support including the Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA) as an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

The impacts of America's wildfires are no longer limited to any one state, region, or industry. This is a national problem. This is a military problem. And passing FOFA is your chance to kick-start a national solution.

Please support the Fix Our Forests Act.
