Tell Mitt Romney: Emergency Rooms Aren't Substitutes For Health Care

Mitt Romney brushed aside the national healthcare crisis when he argued that emergency room care resolves healthcare hurdles for the uninsured. Emergency rooms are not health care substitutes for the over 50 million uninsured Americans that deserve to prevent illness and injury before they become life-threatening.

Americans are not refusing to purchase life-saving health insurance, they cannot afford it--an opportunity gap that Romney mistakes for freeloading. Forcing the uninsured to turn to ERs creates a burden we all share: huge taxpayer costs and increased health risks.

Americans shouldn't have to wait until the last minute to see a doctor when they could be preventing both illness and cost all along, and we need a leader who understands that simple fact.

Send Romney a message today: Emergency rooms are not an effective substitute for good, affordable health care!
Dear Mitt Romney,

Emergency rooms are not solutions for the tens of millions of patients that cannot access health insurance, nor is it a substitute for preventative care that can prevent illness, control costs, and increase health across the board.

[Your comments will be added here.]

Health care and emergency care are hugely different treatment options, and confusing them undermines the plight of uninsured patients and the taxpayers that bear the brunt of an ongoing health insurance crisis. Many of the costs and illnesses associated with ERs could be avoided if all Americans have access to affordable medical insurance and preventative care.

Emergency rooms don't solve the healthcare crisis of the uninsured--but affordable and accessible health insurance can. We need fewer uninformed opinions and more solutions like the Affordable Health Care Act will to ensure every American can afford access to a doctor, not just the last resort of an emergency room.

Sincerely,
