Protect the 14th Amendment

Emboldened republicans in the House of Representatives have launched a new campaign against illegal immigrants. A new bill filed would overturn the 14th amendment of the Constitution and deny citizenship to a baby born on American soil to undocumented parents.

This kind of reactionary policy doesn't solve our broken immigration system. It just discriminates against American children and punishes them for their parents' transgressions.

Not to mention the bill is unconstitutional: It explicitly violates the 14th amendment that states "all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."

We must stop treating American children of undocumented parents as second-class citizens. Urge your representative to vote NO on Rep. King's amendment to deny birthright citizenship.
