Justice Clarence Thomas, Give Health Care Reform A Fair Trial

  • von: Care2.com
  • empfänger: Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas
The Supreme Court will soon decide the constitutionality of the heath care reform bill recently passed by Congress. Justice Clarence Thomas has an ethical conflict and needs to stay out of the deliberations.

Justice Thomas's wife is a lobbyist and has financial ties to the conservative groups that are working to stop the new health care bill. That means his family stands to gain financially if the bill is struck down. Federal law says that justices must recuse themselves from cases where there may be a conflict of interests, or if their spouses have a financial stake in the case, but the final decision is left up to the justice.

Health care reform and the Supreme Court's reputation are at stake. Justice Thomas clearly has an ethical conflict in the health care reform case and must recuse himself from the case in order to ensure an impartial ruling. Join Rep. Anthony Weiner and 73 other members of Congress in telling Justice Thomas to make the right decision and recuse himself.
We, the undersigned, urge you to recuse yourself from the hearing on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and its constitutionality.

The Supreme Court has a responsibility to the American people to remain impartial and honest when ruling on matters that will effect millions. Under federal law, your financial ties to organizations dedicated to working against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act merit recusal.

The Supreme Court's reputation for impartiality and integrity is at stake and we urge you to make sure that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act receives a fair trial.

We appreciate your thoughtful consideration of this request.
