Keep Alcohol Out of the Hands of Colorado Kids

When you are a teenager, it isn't hard to find trouble. Why would Colorado want to pass a ballot measure that would make it any easier?

Unfortunately, national big-box chains like Walmart and Safeway are pushing a ballot measure that could make it much easier for more underage Coloradans to get their hands on alcohol by allowing more of their stores to sell full-strength alcohol.

The proposal is a recipe for disaster. Unlike in liquor stores, where sales are closely monitored and strictly regulated, teenagers can work and shop in grocery stores, making it easier for teenagers to sell liquor to their friends or purchase it themselves. In fact, studies show that underage teens are more than 2X more likely to be able to purchase alcoholic beverages illegally at grocery stores and convenience stores than at traditional liquor stores! This will inevitably increase underage drinking and drunk driving, putting everyone in danger.

Each year, alcohol contributes to the deaths of more than 4,300 young people in the US. Let's not add to the body count by making it alcohol more accessible to our children and grandchildren.

Tell Walmart & Co. that our children's safety is more important than their profit margin! Add your name and join the fight to Keep Colorado Local.
