Support Children in Crisis

Children are most vulnerable when disaster strikes, and emergencies facing children are on the rise, both natural disasters like Typhoon Haiyan, and increasingly, civil conflicts. 6.5 million children in Syria, 3.7 million children in South Sudan, 2.3 million children in the Central African Republic, and more than 600,000 children in Iraq are currently affected by conflict. And around the world today, more than 25 million children are refugees or displaced.

Without humanitarian assistance, these children would face difficult, even insurmountable situations. But UNICEF is there, ready to provide the support they need, both immediate and long-term necessities, food, water, shelter, protection and physical as well as mental health care—whenever a crisis arises.

UNICEF’s water team can measure water quality, clean and disinfect wells, provide water storage tanks and tankers, and rehabilitate damaged water distribution systems.

UNICEF’s education team can provide children affected by emergency with child-friendly temporary learning spaces, teacher training and materials, and, when the immediate crisis has passed, back-to-school support.

UNICEF’s ability to provide emergency support depends upon public awareness of the need for its emergency programming.

Take action today and support providing resources for children in need!
I pledge to stay informed on humanitarian emergencies facing children and UNICEF’s efforts to provide vital assistance to children facing natural disaster or conflict.
