This Police Officer Shot and Killed a Terrified, Unarmed Man. One Lawyer Said It Looked Like an "Execution"

Two years after his death, Timothy Michael Randall's family was able to view the dashcam footage of the horrific night that he was shot and killed by police. His mother's lawyer was the first to review the tape -- he said it looked like "an execution."

Randall was unarmed, showed no signs of aggression, and begged the officer to help him understand what was happening. In return, the officer killed him that night.

Sergeant Shane Iversen had pulled Randall over for allegedly running a stop sign. In the video, you can see the officer motion for Randall to step out of the vehicle. He pats Randall down, and suddenly the officer begins to escalate the situation.

He starts to wrestle with Randall, who stays calm with his hands in the air. Randall pleads with the officer to tell him what he's being detained for. He begs him for information. The officer then grabs Randall under his arms and throws him forcefully to the ground.

Randall gets up and begins to run away from the altercation, which is when Sergeant Iverson draws his weapon. Iverson shot Randall once, piercing his lung and heart, killing him right then and there.

If you're reading this and you're having a hard time finding what Randall did that warrants the force and violence he received, you're not alone. Police use-of-force experts who reviewed the footage agree there was"no reason for Iversen to open fire during the encounter." They said, "There was no threat."

But instead of fighting for justice for Randall and his family, authorities decided to not charge Iverson with anything and allowed him to quietly retire. They even kept this footage under wraps for years until Randall's family won the right to see it.

Timothy Michael Randall should still be alive today. Before the officer escalated the situation, Randall did everything right. But that didn't protect him from being shot as he fled.

Sergeant Iverson's story of that night tells one of his own fear, poor training, and an all too common trend in the United States. Every year, approximately 1,000 people in the U.S. are shot and killed by police. This is a completely unacceptable standard, and one that is fueled by a lack of justice and accountability when it comes to properly charging the perpetrating officers.

That's why we are demanding that Sergeant Shane Iverson have criminal charges brought against him for the killing of Timothy Michael Randall. Sign the petition and demand that Micheal Jimerson, District Attorney for Rusk County, do what is right and get justice Timothy Michael Randall and his family!
