Kids Shouldn’t Pay the Price for Budget Cuts

The debt ceiling deal called for big budget cuts — ones that could put kids' lives and futures at risk.

Less funding for critical child programs means less effective and accessible support.

In the U.S., families could lose access to child care, nutrition assistance and safe asylum. Globally, millions of children would be left without basic food, healthcare and education.

Send a message: We must protect programs that help children survive and thrive!

To whom it may concern:

I'm extremely troubled by talks of reducing funding for child-focused programs, with proposals that go even further than the caps agreed upon in the debt ceiling bill. These kinds of cuts would be devastating for kids — here in the U.S. and around the world.

Nationwide, hundreds of thousands could lose access to child care and Head Start, nutrition assistance benefits would be reduced and more unaccompanied children and families could be denied protection and asylum at the southern border. It'd be disastrous for kids currently relying on this support — not to mention the millions who've never had the opportunity to use it.

Furthermore, the foreign assistance allocation approved by the House Appropriations Committee would cut international programs by nearly a third, leaving leaving millions of children affected by conflict, forced displacement, and global food insecurity without basic food, healthcare and education.

Federal spending cuts shouldn't mean reducing the number of children who reach their potential. As an advocate for kids, I urge you to protect programs that help them survive and thrive and ask you to oppose any cuts to these critical programs in the US and around the globe.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you!
