Help Feed Children Living in Poverty This Summer

15% of Americans are still living in poverty – and 15 million children aren't always sure they will have food to eat.

Poverty affects Americans in many ways: limited education, substandard housing, and insufficient medical care are all side effects of poverty. But hunger is the most prevalent – and most preventable. Many children living in poverty rely on school lunches to get a daily meal, but when school is out during the summer their access to food disappears. Some meal programs are set up in schools and community centers, but children in rural areas have difficulty getting to the location.

That's why Americans Helping Americans is proud to support projects like the Lunch Box Bus. Serving Hawkins County school district in Tennessee – where 68% of students received free or reduced-cost meals – the Lunch Box Bus delivers nutritious meals to children when school isn’t in session so they are still guaranteed access to regular meals. The Lunch Box Bus delivered over 13,000 lunches in 2015. Imagine how many children we could feed with more programs like this.

Support Americans helping Americans and together we will ensure every child has access to food year-round!
