Thauzeni Chibweza, a 27-year-old from Chindapa Village in TA Kasakula, Malawi lives with his wife, Caroline Mwale, and their young child. Their life revolves around farming, but as evening falls, their home is plunged into darkness.
Like millions of people, Thauzeni's home lacked electricity. After sunset they had to stop work, close their day before they were ready. They cooked, washed and moved around their home by guesswork, worrying about snakes, scorpions, and tripping over.
When SolarAid installed a solar system in their house, everything changed. The first time Thauzeni turned on the switch he said, "my heart was filled with joy." That first evening with light felt almost unreal – they stayed up talking and enjoying the feeling of safety and calm.
Millions of families still go to sleep at night without safe, affordable light.
