Vote "YES" to Anti-tethering and Safe Transportation for Companion Animals in Macon, Georgia

On Tuesday, February 19, 2008, Macon's City Council will vote either for or against new ordinances that would outlaw long-term tethering of dogs and letting dogs roam freely in the back of uncovered pickup trucks while moving or parked.

Macon currently has many dogs living on chains with little or no shelter.  Many do not have access to clean water and are not properly fed.  They are often forgotten about by their caregiver and are left in unimaginable conditions.  They simply have no quality of life.  Macon's Animal Control director would like to use this ordinance to really crack down on dog fighting in Macon.  Many fighting pit bulls are kept on short chains and are only allowed off for fighting.

The safe transportation ordinance would prevent dogs in the Macon area from falling from moving or parked vehicles, causing serious injury or death.  The ordinance would also protect citizens from the threat of a dog in the bed of a parked truck in public places.

Please sign this petition today so that it can be a strong statement in support of these ordinances.  The petition will be presented to council members on Tuesday to help influence their decision.
