Tell U.S. Bank to Stop Financing the Oil Pipelines That Are Destroying Our Environment

In 2016 — after learning that Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) planned to build a pipeline that threatened their water and their culture — the Standing Rock Tribe decided to fight. Within months thousands of activists known collectively as "Water Protectors" had congregated near the construction site, braving freezing temperatures, verbal and physical abuse and racism. The protests made headlines around the world and ultimately convinced federal authorities to halt construction. Their protests had ended in victory.

With the entire world focused on the Standing Rock Protests, companies responsible for sponsoring the pipeline were feeling the heat. Some — like U.S. Bank — went so far as to publicly state they would no longer finance pipeline projects. It seemed like another victory.

But when Trump came into office in 2017 he quickly signed an executive order to reopen the project. And U.S. Bank followed suit, less than a year after their proposed moratorium on pipeline financing, they gave ETP a line of credit to the tune of $5 billion dollars.

Activists say ETP has a dismal environmental and safety record, abuses eminent domain, and threatens clean water and the climate. And yet, despite promising to stay out of pipeline financing, U.S. Bank has decided to jump back in with them just when they thought no one was looking.

ETP has recently been given the green light to construct yet another planet destroying pipeline. The project, known as the Bayou Bridge Pipeline is equally as controversial just as hated by locals.

A promise is a promise U.S. Bank, and we want you to keep it.

For all those who fought to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline, all those who are fighting to halt the new Bayou Bridge Pipeline and everyone who cares clean water and our environment. We must stand up and tell U.S. Bank to end their relationship with ETP now.

Please sign the petition and tell U.S. Bank: keep their promise and stop supporting ETP.
