In 2016 The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) set protections to end wasteful venting, flaring and leaks of natural gas and dangerous pollutants from oil and gas operations on federal and tribal lands. When companies extract oil and natural gas from public resources, they pay royalties to the federal and state governments. Inefficient practices waste natural gas and add up to hundreds of millions of dollars in lost taxpayer royalty revenue every year.
That’s why these protections are cost-effective, common sense, and keep our communities healthier.
Now, Secretary Zinke is attempting to stall these vital standards for a year and a half, despite overwhelming public support. We deserve better – we cannot let the Trump administration sell out the health of local communities and greenlight the loss of revenue needed to fund our schools, local infrastructure, and more.
