Support New York Public School Water Testing Bill!

New York could be the first state to mandate testing water for lead in public schools if legislators pass a new bill, S7103C.

The crisis in Flint, Michigan has raised awareness of the dangers of lead in children's drinking water. During the school year, water fountains provide the main source of drinking water for children. After schools began testing for lead, dozens of schools in major cities found that their water exceeds the EPA's threshold for lead contamination.

Many of New York's public schools are from a time when lead pipes were legal. The bill would mandate regular testing of school water supplies to ensure that children aren't drinking water with contaminated levels of lead. If water tests above the EPA's threshold, parents will be notified and the school will be required to provide safe, potable water for children.

Please sign the petition to urge New York Legislators to pass the public school water testing bill!
