Stop the Slaughter of 3000 Wolves in Siberia

Authorities have declared a state of emergency in Siberia, and have ordered more than 3,000 wolves to be killed in three months over a livestock conflict- encouraging hunters with a contest that promises six-figure rewards for the top hunters.

Mountain hares, central to the wolves diet, have decreased in population, creating a migration out of the taiga forests and into the Yakutain reindeer pastures, creating a conflict between wolves and and those that farm reindeers and consider them livestock.

Wolves are critical to the taiga forests- (sometimes also refered to as the Boreal Forest -a forest of the cold, subarctic region in the Northern Hemisphere, just south of the Artic Circle that lies between the tundra and temperate forests. The taiga is the world's largest land biome, and makes up 29% of the world's forest cover.)

We ask the Russian officals to call off the mass wolf slaughter and relocate the wolves back to the taiga and focus on increasing the population of mountain hares, the wolves primary source of food. Both the wolf and the mountain hare are critical to the healthy balance of the ecosystem in the taiga forests.
