CALGARY, Strengthen Animal Cruelty Laws - they are NOT "property"

Calgary, Alberta has proposed a new - and for Canada groundbreaking - bill that will remove pets and animals from the property section of the criminal code. 

Although this may seem a technicality to the casual reader, in reality it allows for stiffer sentences of those found guilty of animal abuse, including jail time. Given that there have been some pretty severe cases of abuse in the news from Alberta - it is time that they set a precedent!! And witht hat hopefully other parts of Canada would follow suit.
