Urge Premier Ball to Stop Muskrat Falls Hydroelectric Dam

Poisoned fish and wildlife will be the future of the Lake Melville area in Labrador if the $8 billion Muskrat Falls Hydroelectric mega-project is allowed to go through. Instead of a pristine lake that thousands of Inuit rely on for food and their traditional way of life methyl-mercury would come into the lake poisoning it and all that rely on its waters.

Additionally, there are energy supply issues in the area and yet, there is no plan for any of the energy generated by the dam to stay locally. It is a money making venture that would export all the energy outside of the region.

Locally, protestors are working tirelessly to stop the project, putting their bodies between the lake and the construction vehicles. These brave land defenders need your support to stop the project.

Sign today to stand with the Inuit people in protecting their traditional hunting, fishing and gathering grounds. By signing today you are sending a strong message that Indigenous livelihood is more important than corporate profits.

To Premier Dwight Bell,

As someone very concerned with environmental and Indigenous health I am gravely concerned about the current proposed Muskrat Falls hydroelectric dam mega-project. This project would bring toxic levels of methylmercury into Melville Lake, poisoning the fish and wildlife, as well as the local Inuit people who rely on these for their traditional way of life.

Indigenous peoples in this country have the right to live by their traditional methods of hunting, fishing and gathering, all which will be threatened by the proposed dam project.

As well, the long-term effect on the food chain and ecosystem by introducing large quantities of methylmercury is an unacceptable risk for the future health of our environment.

I urge you to stop the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric dam mega-project immediately and invest in other, more environmentally sustainable energy projects.
