Ban Live Octopus in U.S. Restaurants

Asian restaurants in Los Angeles and New York have been serving live octopus dishes. In Los Angeles, where a California loophole allows the live slaughter of seafood, such dishes are openly advertised.

An animal welfare organization released a video of Korean restaurants in New York and Los Angeles serving dishes with shrimp and octopus tentacles still squirming on diners' plates.

Cutting off an animal's parts while it is still alive is barbaric and should be illegal. According to biologist Jennifer Mather, “In my professional opinion, an octopus whose arms are cut off is likely experiencing pain and suffering. This suffering is almost certainly prolonged when the animal is deliberately kept alive until all of the arms have been ordered.”

Please sign the petition to urge U.S. legislators to ban live octopus slaughter in restaurants.

I am concerned that Asian restaurants in Los Angeles and New York have been serving live octopus dishes. In Los Angeles, where a California loophole allows the live slaughter of seafood, such dishes are openly advertised.
