Stop Using Dolphins As Shark Bait in Peru

An undercover journalist has just revealed proof that Peruvian fishermen have been harpooning dolphins to use as shark  bait. The fishermen make crude harpoons, then chase the dolphins on small boats before harpooning them, and bring their still struggling bodies on bard to be cut up for bait.

Environmentalists estimate that the 500 Peruvian fishing boats could be killing as many as 10,000 dolphins every year!

The practice is illegal, however industry insiders say it is a well-known fact that is being ignored by the government.

A video of the hunt can be seen here.

This is the largest illegal dolphin hunt in the world and it needs to stop now!

Dear President Ollanta Humala,

We the undersigned are asking you to please stop the killing of dolphins for shark bait by Peruvian fishermen.

Each year around 10,000 dolphins are killed by Peruvian fishermen and only you can stop it.

The practice is illegal under the law of your nation but enforcement is clearly not in place. Please take action to regulate and end this illegal practice.

Thank you.
