Demand equal justice for Alaska's animals

It is only a mandatory misdemeanor in Alaska for animal cruelty for the FIRST 2 times a person is charged with animal abuse no matter the severity of the abuse..
These laws to to be changed to make it a mandatory felony in such cases and a lifetime ban on owning any animal. This would also apply to those convicted of domestic violence due to the strong link between animal and human abuse.

A horrific example of these horrible options was the following case of Harley (since the attack Harley can only eat pureed food).

An Anchorage man accused of beating his dog with a rifle and shattering its teeth has been indicted on charges that he tried to cover up the crime, according to the Anchorage district attorney.

The original charge was cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor for which prosecutors say they plan to seek the maximum penalty.

"Over a ten to fifteen minute period, McGowan proceeded to stab Harley numerous times (with a sharp edge of the rifle barrel) and plow the steel barrel into the dog's mouth over and over again," the papers say. After Harley was let out, the roommate said, he went into the bathroom and saw blood on the floor, ceiling and walls, the papers say: "Bloody footsteps also marred the living room."

The man who committed this horrible crime was only charged with a misdeanor for the attack. 365 days is the maximum sentence for animal cruelty.

Please sign and let lawmakers know that animals deserve equal justice!
