Hi my name is Stephanie, I am eleven years old and, for my PYP Exhibition, I would like a minute of your time to read my petition against illegal whale hunting.
Hunting whales is not a sustainable practice because most whales are slow to reproduce; they have only one baby after 300 to 330 days of gestation. Whale hunting and garbage disposal result in these animals being endangered because of our actions.
Now we are restarting this unsustainable practice because fishermen are fishing for whales again through loopholes in the 1986 Global Moratorium Law, which allows lethal research on the mammals. However, they made no secret of the fact that their meat ends up in restaurants and fish markets.
For example, fishermen went to Antarctica during the Minke Whales’ reproduction time. There, fishermen captured 333 Minke Whales. 230 of the whales were female and 90% of the female whales were pregnant. The law is not able to stop fishermen from hunting whales illegally, so people all over the the world must join hands and fight for the whales rights.
