Demand City of Griffin Change Their Laws About Adopting Pitbulls Out of Griffin Spalding Animal Shelter

I recently took in a very sweet pitbull from the streets of downtown Griffin, GA. When my own dog tried to attack her and my family would not allow her to stay at our house, I was at a loss, and called Spalding Animal Control for help. They gladly took her in. I thought she would have a place to live for a couple days until her owner came to retrieve her or until she was adopted out by a loving family.

Someone contacted me and told me it might be her dog, so I called Griffin Spalding Animal Control to tell them the possible owner may get her today. They told me if the owner did not come on the next day, she would possibly get put down. This is because the City of Griffin does not allow pitbull breeds to be adopted out from shelters. I disagree with this law, because, though some breeds can be aggressive, this dog was far from it. I feel that City of Griffin and Spalding County Animal Control should take each adoption case by case. I understand they have so many spots that they can fill, but this dog was an acception. She would most likely get adopted out, but since she was a pitbull, she would be put down. The only way she could make it out alive is if a licensed rescue rescued her, or her proven owner.

I am in no way pointing fingers, but I see that some of these dogs are harmless and deserve a spot in the shelter.

Please sign this petition to help me change the law about this breed of dog. They deserve homes just like any other dog. Thank you.
