Governor Sandoval: Make Nevada the Nation's Clean Energy Leader!
Climate change is already here, and causing problems throughout the west and around the world.
There is broad scientific consensus that the wildfires and droughts that we are seeing in Nevada are a direct result of climate change. Our best chance for limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius is to make a speedy transition to clean sources of energy like solar, wind, and geothermal.
Currently Nevada's Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) mandates that we create 25% of our electricity from renewable resources by 2025. While this is a good start, we need to be doing much more to meet our climate goals.
Take action today to make Nevada become the nation's leading producer and consumer of clean and renewable energy! Call on our Governor to support increasing our RPS to at least 80% by 2040.
Dear Governor Sandoval,
I share your vision for Nevada to become "the nation's leading producer and consumer of clean and renewable energy." Currently Nevada is on pace for 25% of our electricity to be renewable by 2025. While this is a good start, we need to be doing much more to put Nevada back in the lead of the renewable energy industry nation-wide. Increasing our usage of clean energy will also create jobs, save homeowners money on electricity, clean our air, and substantially reduce climate disrupting carbon pollution.
I am asking you to support increasing our renewable portfolio standard to 80% of our electricity by 2040 at the 2017 session of the Nevada State Legislature.
