Since announcing their plan to open up nearly all federal waters to offshore drilling, the Trump Administration has met strong opposition. A groundswell of voices, including many coastal state governors, have opposed this reckless plan for drilling.

A single oil spill from a rig, tanker, or pipeline would devastate the healthy waters and clean beaches that are critical to our coastal economies. Without a doubt, drilling for oil off North Carolina's coast presents more risk than reward.

We, the undersigned, urge you to ask President Trump and Secretary Zinke to remove North Carolina's coast from the 2019-2024 Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Program.
Offshore drilling would threaten our state's existing tourism and fishing industries that generate billions of dollars in revenue annually and provide good jobs to coastal residents. Oil and gas development would threaten the livelihoods of North Carolinians who depend on our clean water and beaches.
Additionally, over 40 North Carolina communities have passed resolutions opposing offshore drilling and/or seismic blasting.
Please respect our state's goals and policies, existing industries, and ecology and protect North Carolina's coast from offshore drilling.
