Stop the Assault on the Bay

Despite their critical importance to the Bay's ecosystem, Atlantic menhaden face intense pressure from a foreign-owned industrial fishing conglomerate that sucks up more than 110 million pounds of these valuable fish from the Chesapeake Bay every year.

The Chesapeake Bay watershed is home to more than 18 million people and 3,600 species of plants and animals. But the Bay and its rivers and streams are in danger.

Pollution from industry, agriculture, and sprawling development have clogged our waterways for far too long. Crabs, fish, and other Chesapeake critters struggle to survive. And the cost of ensuring clean drinking water for us and future generations continues to grow.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation works to restore and protect the Bay and its rivers and streams. But so much more needs to be done. And it's up to all of us to finish the job of saving the Bay for the sake of our health, economy, and way of life.

Creating a vibrant Chesapeake Bay ecosystem for future generations requires us to evolve in our approaches and expectations. Together, we must build on what has worked, learn from what hasn't, incorporate the latest science, and inspire a renewed movement where humans and nature thrive together.
