Coffs Creek: Shut Down Foam Party Pollution

There's wanting to have a good time, and then there's having a good time at the expense of others. In Coffs Creek, New South Wales, fish, turtles, and platypuses are being routinely poisoned from Coffs Harbour Hotel's foam party run-off.

Foam parties, which fill rooms with a meter or so of foam, require specialized suds. These are the same chemicals used in some parades and festivals. However, the effects of the foam have not been tested on local wildlife, and no investigations have followed through to test the soap's safety.

Miscommunication between hotel staff and conservationists has also raised concerns. Even though environmentalists were told there would be no repeat events after locals found animal corpses, a foam party is scheduled for New Year's Eve.

Allowing the unchecked, continued usage of this foam could cause future problems for animals in Coffs Creek. Tell Coffs Harbour Hotel to shut down the New Year's Eve party and crack down on foam pollution!
Dear Coffs Harbour Hotel management,

After the recent deaths of fish, turtles, and a platypus that could be liked to foam party run-off pumped through a stormwater drain, I would hope you would reconsider hosting additional foam parties until the substances used are proven safe for the environment. It is unacceptable to put local wildlife at risk on account of a foam part.

I urge you to shut down the scheduled New Year's Eve party and crack down on foam pollution until investigations have revealed now foul on the foam.

Sincerely,
