Stop Congress From Gutting Fish Protections

U.S. fisheries are some of the best-managed in the world. In the past 20 years, two-thirds of overfished populations have been brought back from collapse. Unintended bycatch – when marine animals are accidentally caught and often tossed aside – has dramatically decreased.

Catch limits, protected zones, and a better understanding of how our marine ecosystems work have all aided this progress. And much of this is owed to the Magnuson-Stevens Act, which has been one of the most successful laws at growing sustainable economies. It prevents overfishing and has rebuilt a number of fish populations.

Yet it seems like any safeguard – no matter how successful – is not safe from the anti-environmental politicians. Tell your members of Congress: don't gut key fish protections.
Subject: Fight overfishing: reauthorize the Magnuson-Stevens Act!

Dear Legislator,

The Magnuson-Stevens Act has been one of the most successful laws at growing sustainable economies. It prevents overfishing and has rebuilt a number of fish populations.

I cannot understand why ANYONE in Congress would oppose reauthorization or undermine its safeguards. If anything, you should make its overfishing protections EVEN STRONGER to better manage our nation's fisheries.
