Justice to Tran Ngoc Suong

  • recipient: A juster sentence for Tran Ngoc Suong
Tran Ngoc Suong, informally called as "Ba Suong", is the former director of Song Hau Plantation. She has been honored as the Labor Hero by the Vietnamese government in 2000 and as the "Impressive Asian-Pacific Woman" at the International Federation of Business & Professional Women%u2019s Women Inspire Awards in 2002. She is a dedicated businesswoman to the development of the plantation, an agricultural community for more than 10,000 farmers.

In 2009, she was sentenced to eight years in prison for illegally maintaining a slush fund of more than $500,000 and spending part of the money on personal prosperity. The trial has raised tense debates from the public, who think that the sentence is too harsh and needs critical revision. 110 farmers from Song Hau Plantation have even signed a form to "substitute" to be imprisoned for her.

We ask that the court revises its judgment and brings back justice to Tran Ngoc Suong.
