Promote Lexington as a Top 10 City for sustained Wall Street occupations.
- by: Danny Mayer
- recipient: Lexington, Kentucky, Mayor Jim Gray
At Occupy Wall Street and other occupations, young educated people have taken initiative to change their world. It is this demographic that our city, Lexington, Kentucky, has attempted to attract. Now that Occupy Lexington has become the longest-running occupation in North America, we feel that Lexington Mayor Jim Gray needs to capitalize on this accomplishment.
We are petitioning Jim Gray to print (locally) and hang a banner that reads, "Lexington: #1: Best city to sustain a prolonged Wall Street occupation." The banner can be placed alongside the other banners promoting Lexington's Top 10 rankings that hang outside the Commerce Lexington building. Lexingtonians--and, importantly, visitors to Lexington--can learn that not only is Lexington is #2 best city for education (Parenting Magazine); #6 best city to start a small business (CNN Money); #9 best city for business and careers (Forbes). It's also a heck of a place to sustain an occupation.
We want our city leader to support what is undoubtedly a rare opportunity to promote this city. We want Jim to smile and say, “Come to Lexington, all you Creative Occupiers!”
