Let the authorities know that we want to protect dogs from dog fighting.
We understand that thirteen Pit Bulls that were seized from a Rock Hill home in July were returned to caretaker Richard Leach last Thursday. The dogs were seized when Animal Control found many of the dogs without any form of shelter and all restrained by logging chains. Some of the animals didn't have access to water, and none of the dogs had tags indicating they'd received rabies shots. A veterinarian later found that most of the dogs had scarring and other injuries consistent with dog fighting, according to a Sheriff's Office report.
When asked why he has so many dogs, Leach said, "they accumulate." "Kids get grown and get out," he said. "But these dogs (are) going to be here, where I can let them have babies and raise their babies. ... That's a hobby. Some people like to hunt and fish. I like to deal with my dogs."
Many Animal Rescue groups are extremely upset that these dogs are back on chains and continuing to be bred. Authorities said their hands are tied,""There was really no legal grounds to make him do it (have the dogs spayed/neutered)."
York County needs to address this and know how outrageous this is that he gets his pit pulls back and will keep breeding them (as a hobby!).
