Demand an end to spiralling homeowner maintenance charges

Thousands of homeowners on private estates are being hit with spiralling maintenance fees thanks to a lack of regulation. These inflated contractor costs are leaving lower income homeowners struggling. Please sign this petition to demand a £150 on private maintenance fees.

Lynn Myers bought her two-bed house in 2016 on the understanding that Carleton Meadows Management Company would charge £100 a year per household for grass cutting. When Gateway Property Management took over the contract in 2017, it tripled the annual fee to £308.

"I am on a lower-end income and ploughed my late husband's insurance money into this property," says Myers. "I worry that I will be unable to afford this on top of full council tax etc."

Homeowners' Rights Network (Hornets) says that one of the main issues is that there is no cap on what private contractors can charge. Please sign this petition to demand that legislation is introduced to set a cap of of £150 per year. Together we can protect lower income homeowners from exploitation.

BEIS:

Homeowners on private estates are facing unregulated annual maintenance fees from contractors. It's time to put a cap in place to protect lower income homeowners who are currently unprotected from huge increases in fees.
